Boots Rebrand - Final colours

These are the final colors that I am going to use for my Budget range. It uses 20% tint ranges for each of the products. I am going to print them on transparent sticker paper with the type reversed out so you can see the product through. The way that the type is layed out means that it can act as an indication as to how much product is left in the bottle.

Budget Range Mock-ups

Boots Rebrand - Possible colours

These are some possible colours that I could use for the Budget range of packaging.  I want to use a single colour as this will be cheaper to print. I thought about using skin tone colours because it relates to what the product is and will be easily recognisable on the shelf. I could use a tonal shift between the products to help people see what product it is and could also act as a guidance through the skin care range.

These colours use a different colour for each of the products which wouldnt be very cost effective so i am going to try out one colour with tints of the colour for the different products.

Boots Rebrand - Final Logo

These are the final logos that I will be using for the rebranding of the Boots Cosmetics. I have decided to call the brand Surface because it relates to the skin and also has face in the name. The line on the logo represents the surface of the skin. I wanted each price range of the products the have the same name but then communicate the price and quality through the logo. I have used the same typeface for them all but by using different weights it shows the quality. Bold is the lowest quality and ultra light the highest and I think this communicates this. The line is at different heights to show how much the product will penetrate the skin.

Final Crit (20.05.09)

The final crit today went ok. I wanted to discuss the progress I have made on the packaging ranges so far. I got positive feedback on the budget range I have already done but I could maybe consider having a tonal range of products instead of them being all the same colour. This will help the customer differentiate between the different stages in the cleansing process and help tell the difference between the products.

I wanted help with the logo for the mid-price range as I am having difficulty on how to visualise this following the same concept as the other ranges. I had some good suggestions which I am going to try out.

For the other packaging ranges I am going to follow the same formula I have used to design the budget range. I will keep them all simple and use similar colours but in different ways. The expensive range will be fully packaged in boxes etc whereas the mid-price range will have a swing ticket around the neck of the bottle as this is mid way between full packaging and no packaging at all.

I think from now I just need to get on and do it because I know what I need to do. I want to aim to have all the ranges complete by the end of next week so it leaves me a week to photograph the products and do any extra things I may want to do.

More Book Layouts

A few layouts from the trends and inspiration side of my book. This half needs to be quite random in layout and I wanted it to have a scrapbook feel to it. These pages are from the summer chapter of the book. The other chapters follow the same format but with different information. The chapters will be Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Sale.

The content of the book is finished now, I just need to design the front covers then it can be sent off to print.

Tutorial with Justin Burns 13.05.09

In my tutorial with Justin today we discussed how Im getting on with my FMP work and my Design Context book.

As I havnt really done any visuals for my FMP yet we just discussed possible names for the different price ranges of products. I think it will make sense to have a different name for each range but have it so it links to the others. From thinking of a name it will give me ideas of how to design it visually. I need to start on this as soon as possible so that I will have enough work for the final crit next week.

I showed Justin a mock up of my Design Context book. There are still a few things I need to finish off that I am going to get done as soon as possible so I can send my book off to be printed at the end of the week. We talked about how I could design the front covers and how to make it clear to people that it is a flip book and what are the reasons for me doing this. I need to explain in my introductions why I have included the things that I have to show that I have an understanding of my design context. I need to consider different ways of showing that it is a flip book whether this is going to be in the middle of the book where it would get flipped or whether it would be something that is on the covers.

I have now decided to spend my time in the day working on my FMP and to work on finishing my book on an evening.
